THE DONG-RYONG CODE : PART 2
Once we put group the scenes by the colors, across the entire drama, can you see a pattern emerging?
The color of Help~ing / Plot device / Moving the story forward.
Episode 1: Dongryong is introduced as the counselor of the block.
Episode 2: we see him trying to get the guys into an R-rated theatre.
Episode 3: He got the guys to help Deoksun with her talent show.
Episode 6: By starting the ‘sob-story’ contest for the last slice of pizza, Dongryong got Sunwoo to come clean about his 2 year old one-sided love. When Deoksun told him to confess on the first snow, we finally start off the hubby-hunt.
Episode 8: Dongryong teaches the guys how girls behave in front of guys they like. By buying the movie tickets, he got the gang to go out together. He also created a chance for Deoksun to go pick up Taek on her own.
Episode 10: By running away from home, Dongryong created an opportunity for Taek and Deoksun to spend a fun date at the beach. Later that night, Taek even confessed to the other guys how he feels about Deoksun. In addition to that, Bora drove them to the beach to collect him, he let Sunwoo spend the day with Bora as well. That very night, Bora also confessed to Sunwoo and reciprocated his feelings.
Episode 12: I can’t think of anything other than, there are a few product placements front and center here.
Episode 12: Dongryong offers to take Sunwoo home, but he tries to get off night classes by pretending to be sick too.
Episode 15: He offers his seat to Deoksun.
Episode 16: Another demonstration of the good old days where people help each other carry their bags?
Episdoe 16: Dongryong helpfully asks Junghwan if he knows the concept of moving on.
Does yellow also stand for the color for trouble?
I’m only making an observation here. By no means do I mean that the Sungs are a sign of misfortune. We have to consider the secondary level the color may be operating here.
Episode 1: Junghwan and Dongryong got mugged.
Episode 2: The boys got bullied and hit by the school bully.
Epiosode 3: Deoksun’s dance training is not going well at all.
Episode 4: Junghwan’s shirt got ripped accidentally by Deoksun on the bus.
( Ryu Jun Yeol’s fans would argue that that is a blessing not a misfortune…;})
Episode 5: Sunwoo fell down after trying to re-enact a popular CF.
Epiosode 7: The very next scene from the MBC Concert is the adorable little snow/ice-man the parents all made for Jinjoo…and we know what happened to the poor thing.
Episode 9: He was sent to Jeju to visit his elder brother.
If he had not been away, maybe he would have been the one to go to China with Taek.
Episode 11: Dongryong’s dad gets caught for cheating at Go-Stop game.
Episode 14: Much to his horror, Dongryong got his father – the dean as his homeroom teacher.
Episode 15: Dongryong overheard a conversation between Bora and Jungbong, and blackmailed the latter to make him homemade lunch.
Episode 15: Michael and Dongryong end up in the police station after riding a motorbike without helmets.
Episode 16: Dongryong notices that Junghwan has a problem he cannot solve ( though its not the actual romance problem he is facing).
Episode 17: We see Deoksun and Dongryong taking the train to their cram school.
We know that Dongryong didn’t make it to college, but he eventually became a successful chain restaurant owner.
Episode 4: Dongryong says the right things to cheer Taek up from his funk.
Episode 6: Helping Taek with his walkman and packing for his China trip.
Episode 7: Dongryong helped Taek with the odds for him to draw Deoksun’s name for the secret santa by drawing his own name. ( cr Abim )
Episode 12: Taek shared his cutlet vouchers with his friends, and Taek had a chance to be there for Deoksun when she ran into the flasher.
Episode 14: Dongryong even helped Taek to collect his own portion of the fruit basket so that Taek could get to visit Deoksun sooner.
Episode 14: When Deoksun was down in her funk, Dongryong cheered her up and gave her some good advice about knowing her own mind and to know that she can like someone rather than waiting for people to like her. And he even helpfully pointed her in the right direction.
Episode 15: Even after falling from the bike, Dongryong was thoughtful enough to not disturb Taek’s rest and went back to his own house after the guys applied medicine onto his wounds.
Episode 16: The guys went to take part in a dance-off, which failed from the get-go and Dongryong decided to go to Taek’s room to watch Dirty dancing instead.
Episode 16: After his failed KBS audition, Dongryong asked Deoksun what she was doing at the study center.
Episode 17: Dongryong bought college concert tickets for his friends and even managed to get Taek to join them.
GREYS and WHITES
Episode 15: Dongryong is not wearing a colored neck sleeve in an episode that is focusing on him at last.
Episode 17: After taking one for the OTP, Dongryong finally got to enjoy a well deserved rest being pampered by his mum.
